Vic Firth Drum Sticks

Here's what Vic Firth says…

Because every drummer’s body chemistry is unique, one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to finding a way to improve grip. Vic Firth’s American Classic® DoubleGlaze sticks are designed to offer a new tactile experiences for the 5A and 5B player. Together with our classic clear lacquer, VicGrip and PureGrit, the DoubleGlaze option offers players even more possibilities to find their own perfect feel. The American Classic® DoubleGlaze sticks are coated with a specialized lacquer formula which creates a characteristically tacky feel. Players with especially dry hands will appreciate the enhanced lacquered surface because it allows them to relax their grip on the stick. The thick DoubleGlaze coating also adds a bit of mass to the stick for a solid feel.

Vic Firth

Vic Firth is one of the most respected and widely used drum stick manufacturers in the world, trusted by beginners, students, and top-level professional drummers alike. Founded by legendary percussionist Vic Firth, the company was built around the idea of consistency, balance, and musicality, ensuring that every pair of sticks feels reliable in the hand.

Vic Firth sticks are known for their precise weight matching, durability, and clearly defined models, making it easy for drummers to find the right stick for their playing style. The range covers everything from light jazz sticks and orchestral mallets to heavier rock, metal, and marching designs, as well as brushes, rods, and practice tools. This breadth makes Vic Firth suitable for drum kit players, orchestral percussionists, educators, and marching ensembles.

Beyond sticks, Vic Firth is also closely associated with drummer education, technique, and hearing protection. Their practice accessories and isolation headphones are widely used in rehearsal spaces and classrooms, reinforcing the brand’s reputation as one that supports drummers not just on stage, but throughout their entire playing journey.

Drum Sticks

Drum sticks are the primary connection between a drummer and the kit, directly influencing feel, control, volume, and tone. Small changes in stick size, weight, tip shape, and material can significantly affect how a drummer plays and how the drums respond.

Sticks are available in a wide range of models, from light and fast designs for jazz and finesse playing to heavier, more durable options for rock, metal, and high-energy styles. Wood tip shape affects articulation and cymbal tone, while nylon tips offer extra brightness and durability. Materials such as hickory, maple, and oak each provide different balances of strength, flexibility, and rebound.

Choosing the right drum sticks is a personal decision based on playing style, comfort, and sound preference. Whether practising, recording, or performing live, the right pair of sticks helps improve consistency, reduce fatigue, and give the drummer better control over dynamics and expression.

Drum Sticks

Drum sticks are the tools that translate a drummer’s movement into sound, controlling how hard a drum or cymbal is struck and how it responds. Their weight, length, and tip shape affect volume, speed, rebound, and articulation, allowing drummers to play softly or with power, shape dynamics, and define groove and accents. The right sticks help produce clear tone, consistent timing, and expressive control across different playing styles.
