Description

Heil Drum Microphones

Here’s what Heil Sound says:

The Heil PR 28 is a small form-factor dynamic microphone that is designed to perfectly capture toms and drums. Featuring a dual suspension element, the PR 28 accurately reinforces the nuances of a drum’s natural frequency spectrum without transmitting unwanted noise or vibration. The PR 28 provides superb sound isolation for the target drum, eliminating bleed from other drums or cymbals. For hard-hitting drummers, the PR 28 easily handles high SPL without overload. The PR 28 is designed to be used with the optional Heil HH-1 drum mount for standard, metal-hooped drums. The PR 28 is also excellent for other non-kit percussion including bongos, conga, timbale, and djembe, and easily attaches to a standard-threaded mic boom with its built-in threading.

Drum Microphones

Drum microphones are designed to capture the power, detail, and dynamics of a drum kit in both live and studio environments. Because drums produce fast transients and very high sound pressure levels, dedicated drum mics are built to handle impact and volume while delivering clear, controlled sound.

Different microphones are used for different parts of the kit. Kick drum microphones focus on low-end weight and attack, snare and tom mics capture punch and articulation, and overhead microphones provide balance, cymbal detail, and a sense of space. Room microphones are often added to capture ambience and depth, especially in studio recordings.

Drum microphones are chosen based on sound character, placement flexibility, and reliability. Whether used individually or as part of a matched drum mic kit, the right microphones make it easier to achieve a balanced, professional drum sound for live gigs, rehearsals, home recording, and full studio productions.

Tom Mic

A tom mic is designed to capture the full body and attack of tom drums while controlling bleed from nearby cymbals and snare. It delivers focused punch, clear tone, and consistent response across fills and grooves, helping toms sound powerful and defined in a mix. A good tom mic makes toms translate cleanly in both live and studio settings, preserving impact without unwanted noise.
