Description

A classic piece of kit that just keeps on getting better. the DW 5000 series of bass drum pedals have been a firm favourite with professionals for years, due to their smooth responsive feel and durable no-nonsense design. The guys at DW have continued to tweak and innovate, with the latest in the series adding some fantastic new features to make everyday use of the pedals even easier.

Switch to Turbo

The 5002TD4 configuration of this fantastic hardware offers a double pedal design with a Turbo (TD4) concentric drive system. This design maintains a direct relationship between the sprocket and the footboard, so as a player you feel a solid, powerful consistent feel and response to your bass drum performance.

Tweaked to perfection

With the DW 5000 Pedals already becoming an industry standard piece of kit in the drum world, it may have been easy for DW to get complacent. However instead of resting on their laurels, DW decided to tweak the hardware further to address the problems modern drummers face. The result is a pedal design that retains the performance of the past, whilst eliminating some of the problems inherent with all pedals in today’s market.

Inevitably, the first thing that DW focused on was feel and performance. Although the 5000 series was already well known for a fantastic feel on the foot, the new TD4 pedals feature a Dual-bearing Spring Rocker. This gives the pedal a pivot point for the spring that further increases smoothness in the response, whilst maintaining the resistance for a firm and weighty feel.

One of the other major upgrades in this new design concerns the setup and integration with your kit. As with any setup, getting all your kit and hardware perfectly positioned can often be a fiddly buisness and any innovations to help make this procedure are always duly welcomed. The New 5000 series has 2 new features to combat pedal setup issues. The first is a brand new Tri-pivot Toe Clamp design that offers simple and effective clamp for your bass drum. No matter what size your hoop, the pedal stays connected at whatever angle you place it. This is achieved by 3 pivoting rubberised pads that clamp to your hoop and don’t leave a single mark on your drum when they’re done. So if you have a beautiful finish on your drums that you want to keep in tip-top condition, this new design is perfect for getting a fantastic connection whilst leaving your precious lacquer unharmed.

The second major improvement to pedal setup concerns the non-slip base. The traditional way of maintaining the perfect pedal position is the use of velcro on the bottom to attach to a carpet. Whilst some people swear by that method, others find the velcro method a bit cumbersome; awkward repositioning, ripping up of the carpet, picking up dog hair! New pedals combat this with a non skid rubber grip on the sole, providing the needed friction to keep you in the perfect position without being rooted to the spot.

Bass Drum

The bass drum is the low-frequency engine of a drum kit, providing the weight and pulse that anchor the rhythm and drive the music forward. Played with a foot pedal, it works closely with the bass line to define groove and timing, with tone shaped by drum size, head choice, tuning, and muffling. From deep, resonant thumps to tight, punchy attack, the bass drum is central to the feel and impact of almost every style of music.
