Why do I need a muffler?

Bass drums are designed to throw out big volume live on stage but in the studio, or for quieter environments, a little muffling is a great idea. Give your sound engineer an easier time by properly setting up your kit. Pillows, blankets and even spare gig bags might do in a pinch but its not very rock and roll to spend time hunting around in the studio for something to stuff in the drum.
