Description

This 14″ snare by Sonor has been lovingly designed as a nod to the dry, pronounced snares of the 50s – a sound that you’ll instantly recognise and fall in love with.

Vintage Look, Vintage Sound

The snare’s edge utilises a rounded bearing edge as opposed to the more common 45 degree cut. This ensures that there’s more contact with the the drumhead, resulting in a more full-bodied tone with more emphasis on attack than sustain.

Aesthetically, Sonor have gone for a beautiful Vintage Red Oyster finish with unique 50s-style badges and logo – a real eye-catching piece of kit that sounds as good as it looks!

Practical Features

The Sonor Vintage series make use of their Super 50 strainer, inspired by the design of their original 50s snares. The aim of the game here is authentic tone but with added practicality.

They’ve also used a redesigned Superprofil hoop and added their trademark TuneSafe lugs, so you’ll have wonderful resonance and consistency without having to worry about gradual loosening.

Drums

Drums are the rhythmic backbone of modern music, providing pulse, energy, and structure across countless styles and genres. From acoustic drum kits and marching drums to hand percussion and electronic systems, drums are designed to be played physically and expressively, responding directly to touch, technique, and dynamics.

Acoustic drums are built from shells, heads, and hardware that work together to shape tone, volume, and sustain. Different sizes, materials, and tunings allow drummers to create sounds ranging from deep and powerful to tight and articulate. Electronic drums expand this further by offering volume control, sound variety, and integration with recording and digital music systems.

Drums are used in live performance, recording, education, and practice, making them one of the most versatile instrument families in music. Whether played softly or with force, alone or as part of a full band, drums play a central role in driving rhythm, supporting musicians, and shaping the feel of a piece of music.

Snare Drum

A snare drum provides clarity, backbeat, and definition within a drum kit, acting as the main voice for timing and accents. Its tight head and metal snares create a sharp, responsive sound that cuts through a mix, making it essential for groove, dynamics, and rhythmic punctuation. The snare drum controls feel and expression, allowing drummers to play everything from soft ghost notes to powerful backbeats that drive the music.
